Overview
Paris is the capital and largest city of France, known as a global center for art, fashion, and culture. Situated on the River Seine, it is famous for landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum, and is often called the "City of Light". Beyond its cultural significance, it is also a major hub for finance, diplomacy, and transportation, with an extensive subway system (the Metro) and two international airports.
Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.
The City of Brussels is the largest municipality and historical centre of the Brussels-Capital Region, as well as the capital of the French Community of Belgium, the Flemish Region and Belgium.
Switzerland is a mountainous Central European country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps. Its cities contain medieval quarters, with landmarks like capital Bern’s Zytglogge clock tower and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge. The country is also known for its ski resorts and hiking trails. Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s "David" and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.
